*

AFTER LIFE, Re-Births ‘n My Crazy Doubts

*
Definition - “The afterlife is the belief that a part of, or essence of, an individual which carries with it and confers personal identity survives the death of the body of this world and this lifetime, by natural or supernatural means.”

Ancient Egyptians believed in afterlife... they, the dead would go to ‘Aaru’ or some place after they die, and they had to live there happily ever after... that is, until they are called upon by spme great priest by reading some Egyptian LOTR. So the people put lots of stuffs – food, jewellery n all for the souls so they can settle into their afterlife smoothly. TUT. TUT. TUT. These Egyptians are Crazy!

Greeks are even funnier. They have this categories for different people. They had to take a boat service through River Styx to reach the Underworld [not that Dawood’s territory, but the place they went after death] for their final judgement...Not that easy folks, they had to pay Capt’n Charon for the ride. So the dead soul’s family had to put nickels under the tongue of the dead body. And then- the trial by the triumvirs. Good people gets a PR [Permanent Residence] in ‘Elysium’ [No, not that volcanic mountain in planet Mars] – this one’s like Utopia in Hawaii Islands. Stay there enjoying afterlife alone, ‘cause not many gets through the recruitment process, n so far to my knowledge only one guy has made it in these many million years. Tough! Huh? Yea the Greeks always loved challenges. Good, Bad n Ugly [yea, all in one] people get to stand in fields of Asphodel for rest of their afterlife [No, You are NOT allowed to Sit] just stand there..[No, You are NOT allowed to Move!] Chaotic Evils are dumped in Tartarus [something similar to Dead sea filled with Coal Tar].

The wild Norse men believed that they would go to heaven [Hall of Valhalla] if they die fighting n spilling blood n killing enemies... Hel for good for nothing people n Niflhel [something like Tartarus again] for the worst

The idea of reincarnation is accepted by a few Muslim sects, Sh'ia for example. Most Christians believe in a single life. Then Heaven for the good, through Purgatory to Heaven [for not so bad people] n Hell for the sinners.

“In Hinduism the soul (atman) is immortal while the body is subject to birth and death. Worn-out garments are shed by the body; Worn-out bodies are shed by the dweller within the body. New bodies are donned by the dweller, like garments.”

“After attaining Me the great souls do not incur rebirth, the impermanent home of misery, because they have attained the highest perfection.”
 Bhagavad Gita
It is said that one has to take rebirths again and again until his soul is cleared of all sins! Once a person/soul is relieved from the cycle of rebirths, the soul joins the God. It’s also said that the souls are not subject to birth and death [like energy – neither created nor destroyed, only transferred from one body to another]. So it’s at this point that I start doubting this whole setup...

Do they [souls] have to go to Hell [Naraka] to take punishment before the next rebirth, or do they go to Heaven [Swaraga] for a short holiday before they find another body?

With no birth n death for a soul, n supposing there are as many souls as there is, and considering that some souls might have joined in a holy communion with God... How in the bloody Hell is the population ever rising exponentially?

P.S - I m a Hindu, still believe in Hinduism n all the Gods including Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar !
